The first associate attorney at Steve Watrel, P.A., Kirsten Oliver is excited for the opportunity to work with such a talented, highly-respected attorney such as Steve Watrel. His insight, expertise, and continual striving for excellence are an inspiration to her.
With future pursuits of trial advocacy courses such as Trojan Horse, Trial Lawyers College, Florida Justice Association, and other programs to bolster her abilities, she seeks to zealously represent her clients with that same standard of excellence. Her primary focus is nursing home abuse and personal injury.
As a natural problem-solver and critical-thinker with almost fifteen years of legal experience, Kirsten’s strengths lie in her ability to see issues from a variety of angles, understand another person’s point of view, and think strategically in order to overcome obstacles. She has genuine compassion for her clients and is committed to prompt, courteous case management.
As a former volunteer Guardian ad Litem, with Jacksonville Community Emergency Response Team (JaxCERT) training, and PhD courses in emergency management; she currently works with the team on several programs that assist our elderly.
An aspiring novelist, she loves the art of story-telling, and is developing her case-framing skills to best tell our client’s stories. She is married to her husband and best friend, Chris, and has two Chihuahuas. She enjoys trips to the mountains, writing, drawing, and interior design.
Ever the Gator fan, paralegal and case manager Cheryl Barfield is an eighth generation (Bowden) Jacksonville native who has been a devoted, skilled paralegal since 1988. As a highly qualified paralegal, she has worked with several of the most prominent firms in Jacksonville, before teaming up with our firm in 1995. Of her 27 years in the legal field, 20 of those have been with Steve Watrel, P.A.
Cheryl attended Florida Junior College, as well as Jones College. She is also a member of the Florida Justice Association. She is a compassionate communicator who focuses on the auto accident side of the firm. She is primarily responsible for organizing and coordinating all auto settlement and demand packages. A relentless client advocate, Cheryl is an effective liaison for our clients. She is always willing to put her impressive relational skills—speaking with clients, answering questions, and helping them to navigate the process—to work for our clients.
Cheryl has been married to Jim for 25 years. She enjoys college football, gardening, craft projects, and exercise.
Originally from Arkansas, marketing coordinator April Tapp joined Steve Watrel, P.A. in May of 2015, as the firm’s marketing coordinator. She attended college at Lyon College and graduated in 1998 with a B.A. in English and a minor in psychology.
April has taught upper level writing courses for many years and is now putting her expertise in communications to work for us. Energetic and vivacious, she focuses on building relationships with colleagues, current and past clients, and the community to ensure that our firm provides excellent service and exceeds expectations for those we work with. A member of the Florida Justice Association, April is always searching for opportunities for our firm to advocate for seniors in our community. Never without a smile, she is honored to assist with client needs and work diligently with those who contact us, to the success of both client and firm.
April is married to her high-school sweetheart Jeff and they have two boys. She is a loyal Arkansas Razorback fan and an avid foodie, who enjoys the beach, fashion, and interior design. She is actively involved in both women’s ministry and student ministry at Chets Creek Church.
Pat Hill joined Steve Watrel, P.A. in January of 2017 and is a tremendous asset to our team. She was born in Santa Monica, California, but moved to Jacksonville as a child and continues to call the River City home.
Pat boasts over 40 years of experience in personal injury and automobile accidents, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse and neglect, insurance defense, commercial litigation, estate and trust planning, and family law. She has worked in law firms in Florida and both North Carolina and South Carolina. She brings a wealth of knowledge from her experience with several of the premier firms in Jacksonville, including Fernandez Trial Lawyers, P.A,; Harrell & Harrell; Barnes & Cohen; and David, Morrow, & Edwards. She also held the position of Legal Accounts Coordinator as a liaison to attorneys for Emas Spine and Brain Specialists. Her strengths lie in personal injury litigation litigation preparation and trial work.
She enjoys swimming, gardening, and traveling and adores her two Pomeranians.
